While Walmart Foundation’s philanthropic activity can be seen nationally and internationally, the majority of contributions happens on local levels. Here are some of the most recent donations in the state of New York:
Walmart’s 6th Annual Charity Golf tournament to benefit Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital took place in late September 2010. The event generated $42,000 in proceeds which went toward supporting the hospital’s ongoing needs. Golisano Children’s hospital is a national leader in treatment and research in Neurology, Cancer, Neonatal care and other areas. Walmart is proud to support their cause.
The Walmart Foundation has donated $2 million to Dress for Success in March 2011. Dress for Success is an organization that helps women get back into the work force. This donation will help the organization provide clothes, resume training and other necessary tools for finding a job. Along with monetary contributions, Walmart associates are donating their time to provide work advice, review resumes and conduct training interview sessions.
In January 2011 The Walmart Foundation donated $400 000 to the Food Bank of New York City. This donation was a part of Walmart’s $2 million initiative to help hunger relief. The contribution will go towards financing the Food Bank’s distribution of over 70 million pounds of food a year to those in need. In addition, the donated funds will be used to carry out the necessary upgrades to the Food Bank’s lighting, refrigeration and other equipment.
